A new cover of the tobacco regulation? -

If US Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) has its way, the Food and Drug Administration will soon acquire the ability to regulate cigarettes and other tobacco products, more drugs and foods that already oversees. As Reuters reports, the Waxman bill cleared a committee of the House of Representatives yesterday, 39-13, but it still needs approval by the House and the full Senate. Some cigarette manufacturers such as Philip Morris, are on board, while others oppose the legislation. It remains to be seen whether President Barack Obama, a former smoker himself, would support the bill.
