Summary

South Africa has more people living with HIV, an estimated 6.6 million, than any other country in the world. About half are now receiving antiretroviral (ARV), which greatly emphasized the country's health care system. Now South Africa plans to encourage all infected people know their status and begin treatment as part of the drive to end the epidemic. The cornerstone of the campaign is the fact that people with HIV on ARVs and fully delete their virus rarely transmit to others. Mathematical models suggest that 73% of the infected population must reach to slow the spread and start downward spiral of the epidemic. South Africa has promised to hit this target by 2020, according to a global target set by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV / AIDS, but many experts doubt it can succeed and then other the question of the model itself. When the biannual International AIDS Conference held in Durban, South Africa, later this month, these issues will probably stage.
