A European has been planned clinical trial considered as the first test large scale phage under modern regulatory standards to have results this summer. But after a series of delays, the trial, known as PhagoBurn, was forced to reduce the size and scope. Now it is the race to recruit patients and produce results by next year. The project can clear a path for future products for market approval, but it also illustrates some of the many obstacles they will face show that phages are safe and effective.
