Today is the birthday of Francis Peyton Rous, a US pathologist known for his pioneering research on cancer. In 109, gave a Rous chicken Plymouth Rock with a large breast tumor, and he experienced in transferring a cell-free filtrate of the tumor in healthy chickens. For his discovery in 1910 that viruses can cause cancer, Rous received a share of the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1966. He died in 1970.
