Last week we talked about green thumbs in gardening edition of our health Series Spring Council . When gardening this spring, remember that it is the perfect time to develop green! Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale and leafy vegetables grow in 50-70 degree weather. You feed yourself or pick up in your driveway local produce, eat your greens can have many advantages (WebMD).

Green fights cancer. Studies have shown that the consumption of green vegetables is associated with decreased risk for lung cancer, stomach, intestine and cancer, as well as other types. Greens also help strengthen your heart and body to prevent heart disease and diabetes (American Cancer Society).

Greens are a source of iron. , Dark leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale contain high sources of iron Nonheme (herbal). Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, a globular protein that transfers oxygen from the lungs to the tissues (NIH). A combination of iron and vitamin C rich foods like oranges and strawberries are perfect for preventing anemia in a vegetarian or vegan diet

Greens provide fiber :. cruciferous vegetables and leafy vegetables are famous for their fiber content. A high fiber diet helps maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of diabetes. The fiber can also lower cholesterol, control blood sugar levels in the blood, and promote a healthy digestive system.

Now that you know some of the benefits of green vegetables, enjoy this great time to incorporate them into your diet.

Go Green in the Kitchen:

  • breakfast :. Add spinach to an omelette or sneak in a little smoothies
  • lunch: Add kale to soups and stews. or mixed salad leaves to wrap or sandwich
  • Dinner: Add green to Stir. Try sugar snap peas, bok choy, Swiss chard, spinach, and zucchini. This will give you bulk and help you complete
  • Snack :. Stock your snack bag with broccoli and hummus or make your own kale chips. So fashionable
