Epidemiologist Richard Besser, who until recently helped coordinate the swine flu in the nation (H1N1) response acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will soon be reporting on influenza and other topics such as healthy aging and medical editor for ABC News. The telegenic Besser, 49, had been considered a dark-horse candidate for the leadership CDC, but lost on the former health commissioner of New York Thomas R. Frieden, who took control of the agency based in Atlanta in June.
