WHO may raise the level of pandemic threat -

The World Health Organization (WHO) should raise the pandemic threat level from the current outbreak of swine flu in a hour.

The Geneva-based organization planned to convene its emergency committee, known as the rules of the International Health Regulations, Tuesday to reassess the level of threat, but hit up one day.

According to WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl, the committee plans to raise the pandemic threat level to 4 or 5. a change in the level of pandemic threat "is not guaranteed," he said "but there is a good probability that something will happen."

Pandemic Level 4 indicates that it is sustained human to human transmission limited to a geographical area. This means it is possible to contain the epidemic with ring vaccination and the widespread use of antiviral drugs.

pandemic level 5 means that there are various community foci of transmission over several generations. If there is such a sustained transmission, compared to imported cases of people who have traveled to areas where the virus circulates, several decisions should be made, Hartl said, including whether to switch vaccine production against influenza seasonal that of pandemic influenza and whether to increase production of antivirals.

Hartl said the disease was confirmed in four countries: 40 cases in the United States, 26 in Mexico, 6 in Canada and 1 in Spain.
