8 Tips to improve the health of children

Since the 1970s, the obesity rate child in our country has tripled. Today, one third of American youth are overweight or obese, and subsequently at risk for type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and simultaneously at an early age. If you are concerned about the health of your children, check out these 8 tips to keep your children healthy.

It is important to model and reinforce a healthy lifestyle at a young age. Consider eating and exercise habits you learned as a child. Which of these, positive and negative, are always with you today? Here are some ways that you can set a good example :.

  1. small_colorfulfood Eat your vegetables It is useful for children to see you eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Try new things together and talk about what you like.
  2. reduce sugary drinks. When your children are hungry, provide water. For other types of drinks sure to check the sugar content; provide half the portion!
  3. Buy together. Invite your child to go to the grocery or farmers market with you. This fall, let them pick their own apples! Discuss where vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy and protein foods come. Ask your children to help them to make healthy choices for the family.
  4. Get creative in the kitchen. Cut food into fun and easy shapes with cookie cutters. Encourage your child to make food and trail mix from scratch and invent new snacks.
  5. Award with attention, no food. Show your love with hugs, kisses, and quality time. Choose not to offer sweets as Rewards- it can lead your child think sweets or dessert foods are better than other foods.
  6. Focusing on the other at the table. Make mealtime a time to speak and connect as a family, turn off the TV, put away cell phones and focus on the other.
  7. Listen to your child. If your child says he or she is hungry, offer a snack yourself healthy if it is not a scheduled time to eat. Ask their opinion on their school lunches.
  8. Encourage physical activity. Aim for 60 minutes of exercise a day. Make physical activity fun for the whole family. Limit screen time. Encourage everyone to stand up and move during commercials - it's a great time for stretching, sit-ups, or jog up the stairs
