Heart failure sounds scary, right? It can be, but heart failure does not mean your heart has stopped and there is nothing you can do.

Heart failure occurs when your heart does not work as well as it should. It can be treated, and some treatments, such changes and lifestyle drugs work for many people. But others with more severe heart failure may need a heart transplant or ventricular assist device (VAD).

How do you treat heart failure?

Heart failure can be mild, moderate or severe. The goals of treatment for all types of heart failure usually include:

  • Keep your heart failure worse
  • Managing your symptoms
  • Treating this is causing your heart failure, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or other medical problems
  • Make your quality of life

heart failure can be treated with:

  • changes to your lifestyle, such as quitting smoking, getting regular exercise and a healthy diet for the heart
  • drugs that help the heart work more
  • devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators, which are placed inside your body and help control your heart rate
  • surgery to repair heart valves or vessels may not work in the right direction

If these treatments do not work or your heart failure becomes severe, you may need:

  • a heart transplant, you get a new heart
  • has DAV before or instead of a transplant

what a device (VAD)? ventricular assistance

also known as an artificial heart, a DAV is a small mechanical device that gets placed in your chest or is worn on the outside of your body. It works by drawing blood from your heart pumping and your body outside in, giving it the nutrients it needs.

There are different types of VAD. They are used for various reasons such as :.

  • A bridg e transplantation It may take some time to get a new heart, and your doctor may recommend a DAV while you wait . After your transplant, your doctor removes the DAV.
  • A bridge to recovery. In some cases, such as after a heart attack, heart surgery, or other cardiac event, your heart can heal itself with the help of a DAV. Once your heart is strong enough, the DAV is out.
  • destination therapy. Not everyone is able to have a heart transplant, usually due to age or other medical condition. DAV can be their "destination therapy." - This means that instead of having a heart transplant, they will live with a DAV for the rest of their lives
