Heart Healthy Living
February is a good time to check with ourselves and think about how our lives daily plays a role in keeping our heart healthy. It is an important time to learn that small changes we can do that could have potentially life-saving benefits.
To help provide a renewed sense of inspiration to live heart healthy, we connected with Chris Barritt, old heart surgery patient's tumor at Washington Adventist Hospital.
" I been living heart healthy by eating well, taking a vigorous 40-minute walk every day and making sure to get a good night's sleep. As they say "Everything in moderation," said Chris who is pictured here scuba diving in Jamaica.
If you remember, Chris was able to make the trip cross country bike a reality after open heart surgery to remove a heart tumor life threatening.
What has also helped to recover in time were his healthy lifestyle. "Heart patients who have well-established eating habits and healthy exercise have an advantage during the recovery period," said Paul Massimiano, MD, cardiac surgeon and director of the cardiac surgery program at the hospital Washington Adventist, who performed open heart surgery. "I am confident Chris would follow the right steps on the road to recovery and we would make it back to his adventurous lifestyle."
Way to go Chris to maintain the good work! Whether a motorcycle cross-country tour, a trip around the world, or spend time just with friends and family, that they are the motivating factors to keep your heart healthy this February so you do not miss the adventures of life.
