Make S.M.A.R.T. New Year's Resolutions

It is time when we begin to put our resolutions for 2013. People often avoid doing so because they have a tendency to feel defeated shortly after the goals are set . This year, be S.M.A.R.T. on setting your New Year's resolutions:

specific -When setting new goals, be specific. A goal to live healthier in the New Year is focused when you target an area in which you want to make healthy changes, such as eating more fruits and vegetables to lose weight

measurable . - What success looks like for your goal? How much weight do you lose? How many fruits and vegetables do you eat each day?

Achievable -Can you achieve your goal?

Realistic -Do you setting yourself up for success or depression? Can you eat four to five servings of healthy food per day? Is it realistic for you to exercise for two hours a day, five times a week?

bound time -Set a definitive timetable for accomplishing your goal.

For example, if your typical resolution is "get healthier in the New Year," turn it into a SMART resolution saying that you will have healthier summer through walking for 30 minutes four times per week, and the cutting dessert. Take a step further by signing up for a local healthy life event, such as Washington Adventist Hospital Heart Smart event in January, 9. You can subscribe to our heart healthy cooking and screening event here.

Whatever you resolve to do it in the new year, we wish you health, happiness and success!
